This is for you Paulo Coelho!

A few months back when I was desperate to read a book, one of my good friends suggested me to read “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho. I downloaded the file to my Kindle and started to read…

“The boy’s name was Santiago. Dusk was falling as the boy arrived with his herd
at an abandoned church. The roof had fallen in long ago, and an enormous
sycamore had grown on the spot where the sacristy had once stood.”

This was the first paragraph of part 1. As I turned the pages one after the other, it felt like I was skidding and falling off into a whole new world. Right from thoughts to the actions, this book had its massive impact on me. To put in simple words, this is a story of a young boy who follows his dream, who fails (over and over), who gets mugged, who gets beaten, who gets threatened, who falls in love but leaves the girl behind. No, The Alchemist is not a thriller or an action or a romance novel. It talks only about dreams, love and… universe….

You will be “reborn” after reading this excellent work by Paulo Coelho. Morals, wisdom, life skills, love and what not!

And the last line says…

“I’m coming, Fatima,” he said.

The life of a heartbroken Brazilian girl (Maria) who has least interest in the idea of “finding true love” visits Switzerland. She’s yet another “unsuccessful model” strolling in the country of Switzerland. After quitting her job at a nightclub, she slowly falls into the pit of prostitution and begins her career at a brothel in Geneva’s biggest red light district. Will she meet her prince charming?

“Anyone who is in love is making love the whole time, even when they’re not. When two bodies meet, it is just the cup overflowing. They can stay together for hours, even days. They begin the dance one day and finish it the next, or–such is the pleasure they experience–they may never finish it. No eleven minutes for them.”

This story throws light on how strong a woman can be, what “true love” can change her. Up to what extent can a woman control her inner feelings. Maria, is one such girl whose true feelings are expressed only in her diary. Maria, ceaselessly gets into conflicting conversations with her mind and heart (which most of us do). This book deals with Sex, love, money, beauty, life, heart, soul, dreams, passion and read it to explore more!

The reason behind the name of this book can be justified from the following lines:

“Maria, you’re exaggerating.
It’s really only forty-five minutes, and if you allow time for taking off clothes, making some phoney gesture of affection, having a bit of banal conversation and getting dressed again, the amount of time spent actually having sex is about eleven minutes.’Eleven minutes’. The world revolved around something that only took eleven minutes.”

This book is a must read. And please don’t think this is some “dirty” book since it involves sex.

Pilar, a girl who is tired of her college life meets her childhood friend after more than a decade. He is a spiritual teacher and one of the most respectable person. People say that he could heal the sick and do wonders. Eventually, as the story moves, they fall in love… This is an intense and an emotional love story. It’s different from the above two books. But “By the river Piedra I sat down and wept” is a must read. A slow paced story that covers love, spirituality, heartbreak and a positive happy ending.

“By the River Piedra I sat down and wept. There is a legend that everything falls into the waters of this river – leaves, insects, the feathers of bird – is transformed into the rocks that make the riverbed. If only I could tear out my heart and hurl it into the current, then my pain and longing would be over, and I could finally forget.”

Brida is a 21-year-old girl who wants learn the world of magic and witchcraft. Brida is a book filled with magic, wisdom, and thrill. Few portions of the story make your heart race. The search for “the soulmate” is portrayed in this book. Universe, wisdom, magic, love, soulmate, time are few of the things this book concentrates on.

“But how will I know who my Soulmate is?” Brida felt that this was one of the most important questions she had ever asked in her life.
By taking risks’ she said to Brida. ‘ By risking failure, disappointment, disillusion, but never ceasing in you search for Love. As long as you keep looking, you will triumph in the end.”

These were the 4 books which I read one after the other (in the same order as I’ve mentioned here). Fresh thoughts, a new perspective towards the world, increased level of patience were few of the things which I experienced after reading these books. An  interesting thing about reading these type of books is that it drags you slowly into the world the author describes. You cry when a character cries, you smile when a character smile and finally you learn the morals and take away the positive vibes from the pages. Hoping to read all the works of Paulo.

Thank you for ceaselessly influencing the universe, Paulo!
