It was a lousy evening and the summer heat acted as a catalyst to spoil my mood. Scrolling through a web page in my mobile browser, I saw a quote and my eyes halted for a moment, *blink-blink* and then continued scrolling. In no time, I slept off.
A couple of hours passed…
We wonder why on earth we studied engineering. There are people in their early 30’s who *still* confess that “My job and my degree(s) are not related in any way”.
I hated the 4 years of my engineering life. With high dreams and passion, stepping into the college with a hope as tiny as a speck of dust. A hope, that I’ll be able to give life to my dreams. My ears ringed with these two phrases “You are going to waste your life”, “You won’t get placed”. All I could react was: F-U.
According to me, I had 4 years of time exclusively for developing and gaining expertise in my area of interests.
Think of something in your life that you’ve wanted to accomplish but haven’t. Something deep down. Whether it’s because you haven’t gotten around to it, are too timid to go for it, or you took a shot and failed deliberately. Conjure up in your mind that big failure of your life. Perhaps you’re in the middle of it now.
Just when you were lying down on the roof, looking at the stars and wondering why there are some stars that shine so bright while others don’t? you will get a text from your ex saying that he/she wants to get back into your life to make things worse again or the university examination results are out and you have failed in few subjects or your boss will ask you to come to the office immediately to finish a ‘7 day’ project in a ‘single night’ which will ruin your mind and make your night miserable.
If you have to try to be cool, you will never be cool. If you have to try to be happy, then you will never be happy. Maybe the problem these days is people are just trying too hard.
Happiness, like other emotions, is not something you obtain, but rather something you inhabit. When you are angry and beat someone up, you are not self-conscious about your state of anger. You are not thinking to yourself, “Am I finally angry? Am I doing this right?” No, you’re out for blood. You inhabit and live the anger. You are the anger. And then it’s gone.
“Open your eyes, look within.
Are you satisfied with the life you are living?”
– Bob Marley
There are two major types of humans. One of them frequently says, “From here on, I’m going to live my life”. Other says “I’m just surviving my life” (with a sigh). What’s the big difference? We all live through this game of life. But, what’s the margin that decides whether we are living our surviving?
“I think life is always dangerous. Some people get afraid of it. Some people don’t go forward. But some people, if they want to achieve their goal, they have to go. They have to move… We have seen the barbaric situation of the 21st century in Swat. So why should I be afraid now?” said an 18-year-old girl from Pakistan, Malala Yousafzai.
